How To Win

Ka Mau Te Wehi is a new programme to help Māori and Pacific Island people lose weight. It’s a programme for people who are at risk of developing, or who already have, Diabetes or Heart disease. To judge the teams, assess their progress and to ensure that every team is treated fairly the following guidelines have been put into place.

How To Participate

Register your team

Register your team and all team members on the WEHI website by the competition start date. Teams should have 7 members.

Complete blood tests and questionnaires

All team members must complete 3 blood tests for HbA1c and cholesterol, and complete the Start of Competition and End of Competition Questionnaire and 6 month Follow-up Questionnaire.

Participate in Challenges

There are two types of challenges, Daily Challenges and Weekly Challenges

Daily Challenges are completed individually and should be recorded in the WEHI diary. At the end of every week teams add up individual totals and enter to totals at http://wehi.nz (within 3 days of the end of the week)

The Daily Challenges are:

● Sugar-free Drink Day

● 3+ Vege Day

● Exercise Day

● ¼ ¼ ½ Dinner Day

● Fast & Fried-free Day

● Sweet Treat-free Day

● Stand Up Day

● Build Me Up Day

● Water First Day

Weekly Challenges are completed either as a team or individually (varies from week to week). Teams will receive their weekly challenges from their WEHI Regional Coordinator.

Win prizes!

Teams will compete for 3 prizes:

● Greatest progress at 2 months - $1,000

● Greatest progress at 4 months - $1,000

● Overall winner at 6 months - $3,000

Team progress and overall winner will be calculated as follows:

● Number of team members who have lost 4 or more than 4kg’s weight in the preceding two months PLUS

● Number of team members who have lost 3 or more than 3cm in waist circumference during the preceding two months PLUS

● The team’s position on the competition leader board based upon the teams’ participation and completion of daily and weekly challenges for each 2-month assessment period (lowest ranked position = 1 to highest ranked position = 7)

The team with the highest overall calculated score at the end of the competition period wins the prize. There will be a separate prize pool per region.

To be eligible for the 2-month and 4-month progress prizes all team members must have their weight and waist circumference measurements recorded by a WEHI Research Assistant within two weeks of the 2-month and 4-month mark and all Weekly and Daily Challenge results up to date on the WEHI website.

Rankings do not carry over into the next competition period. If more than one team draw, they will split the prize money. Cash prizes can only be awarded to an organisation that serves the wider community and is a current registered Incorporated Society or Charitable Trust.

For more information on prize conditions, please contact your WEHI Regional Coordinator.
