Alcohol
A question has been raised by our team as to whether alcohol is regarded as a sugar drink or not. We are mainly referring to beers, wines and RTD's I guess. So far of team members have had a beers or wines we have deducted points. What is the kaupapa with alcohol??

I wondered why the number of team members achieving Sugar-free Drink Day on the weekends dropped off so sharply across a number of teams. I thought there must be widespread consumption of run & coke ha ha.
There is a tip or two about alcohol. At the bottom of each tip is a key word - if you scroll back through the tips and find one that has alcohol has a topic - click on the keyword "alcohol" at the bottom of the tip and all the tips about alcohol will come up.
Wine, beer and champagne are IN - they are not added sugar drinks. They are however empty calories (fattening & you get no nutrients). Most spirits have no sugar added - alcohol is formed by fermenting sugars, which leaves alcohol not sugar.
RTDs are no doubt alcohol mixed with fizzy - so they are definitely out. Any cocktail, or spirit with a mixer - where soft drink is added are OUT. If you are making your own, you can use artificially sweetened (diet & zero) soft drink.
Hemsley & Hemsley on Food TV made a cocktail the other night - Blueberry, Lavender & Coconut Water with Vodka. They did put some honey in though which is added sugar, so no good for WEHI. But the point is - it is possible to make healthier cocktails. We won't set this as a team challenge though - some people might frown on that :)
