He patai tenei.

I made a sago pudding last night but instead of using sugar to sweeten it when adding custard, I used honey.

I ate it and it was so delish.

Did I forfeit 8 points or not?

I thought the emphasis was on "sugar sweetened" puddings.

Yes or No??

Is honey ok in home made muesli?

We really want you to eat breakfast, and lunch and dinner. None of the Daily Challenges discourage the wise little use of sugars in these meals. Obviously, given that the overall kaupapa is to lose weight, you'll be wanting to find those hidden sugars and review whether they are tripping up your weight-loss plans. As they song goes, sometimes "a spoon full of sugar makes the medicine go down...". Oats are a good breakfast food for Diabetics because they take longer to digest and help you feel full longer. A small amount of honey or maple syrup or fruit can make it so much easier to switch to these less tasty foods. Sugar is not all bad all of the time - we've just got to learn when it's good for.

Sweet Treat-free Day is about encouraging you to replace your morning and afternoon and in-between snacks with healthy foods. So as long as you are not having muesli with honey added as your snack at these other times...? Ka pai.

      Hope that helps. L

Awesome thank you Marewa. I think our Team has taken this to another level of thinking about what we eat, which I feel is one of the aims of the kaupapa and given that we are in our 3rd week the questions are coming hard and fast.
I love your tweets also and I don't know much about Twitter but I didn't want to miss out on your tweets pertaining to this kaupapa. I then share it on Facebook to our Team page.

      Thank you Marewa

    Thank you Marewa.
That clarifies a lot and that sounds like a good idea having maybe banana or pineapple(which is my favourite fruit anyway

Very good question. Unfortunately honey is straight fructose which is a sugar. Honey is natural and has trace amounts of good things in it, but it's still a sugar. So, no points for that, but thumbs up for trying something different.

Next time try to use whole fruit instead - for example, you could blend up some unsweetened pineapple and mix that through your sago, or mango, or some other sweet fruit. All fruits have fructose in them as well, but for WEHI, we are not encouraging you to avoid fruits - that would be silly.

The Sweet-Treat Free Day includes not having sugar-added desserts and puddings. There are some tips that explain about sugars - find a tip that has "sugar" as a keyword at the bottom and click on that. All the tips about sugar will come up.

Thanks for asking - I will write it up and put it under the FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions.

Haere tonu. Keep going - you're doing great.
